Specialist Tutor and Assessor Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)

Hannah Martin
MA (SEN & Inclusion), BA (hons), PG Dip (SpLD), APC
I offer specialist tuition and assessments for children aged 8 and above who are finding reading, writing, or spelling difficult.
I provide:
• Full diagnostic assessments – giving you a clear understanding of your child’s strengths and challenges, which may lead to a formal dyslexia diagnosis.
• Specialist teacher assessments – detailed reports with practical recommendations to support your child’s learning (without a diagnosis).
• One-to-one tuition – personalised lessons that build confidence, reduce frustration, and help your child succeed.
I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Specialist Teaching for Literacy-Related Difficulties, plus a Level 7 qualification in Specialist Assessment and Intervention, demonstrating advanced skills in supporting students with dyslexia and other literacy challenges.
I also hold a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), meaning my assessments are accredited by SASC (the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee). This ensures that my reports meet national standards and are officially recognised by schools, colleges, and universities. For students entering further or higher education, an APC-backed report can be used to apply for the Disability Students’ Allowance (DSA)—additional financial support covering resources like specialist software, equipment, or one-to-one study skills tuition.
I am deeply committed to identifying learning barriers and helping children build on their strengths. By working closely with both parents and schools, I make sure each student receives the right support to reach their full potential—while also developing a genuine love of learning.
About me
With over 20 years of experience in primary education, including many years as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), I bring a deep and practical understanding of how students learn and what they need in order to thrive.
I hold a Master’s degree in Special Educational Needs and Inclusion, which has shaped and strengthened my approach to supporting learners with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and other neurodiverse profiles. This advanced study, alongside many years of hands-on experience in schools, allows me to look carefully at each learner as an individual. I focus on recognising their strengths, understanding the barriers they may face, and identifying the strategies that will help them succeed.
My approach is always centred on the individual. I aim to build confidence, unlock potential and help young people develop the skills and self-belief they need to thrive both academically and personally.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC). I am also a member of the Dyslexia Guild and Patoss, which helps me stay informed about the latest research and best practice in dyslexia assessment and learning support.
